There are a lot of good reasons therein for Adobe to open source the Flash Player. Who knows, maybe Apple's new iPad not supporting Flash may be the final straw that causes Adobe to fully open source the player. On another front, some good friends where I used to work have been using the Vaadin Framework (I think it's built around GWT) for RIA and have recommended it. It's distributed under an open source license: http://vaadin.com/license. Maybe I'll do a similar write for that framework and see how it compares.
